Still Looking Forward To Lost Planet 2!

It seems like I won’t be able to get my hands on Capcom’s sexy third-person shooter, Lost Planet 2, until April 4th, 2010. The 4-player online co-op demo is available for all to download on both Xbox Live and Playstation Network. I have been craving this game since I tried the demo. The previous installment, “Lost Planet”, had fast-paced online multiplayer action filled with all sorts of explosive action hero moments. Taking out a large enemy VS while on foot was usually quite the feat! Rumors have it that Capcom is taking this one in a slightly different direction, all for the better I hope.

CAMPAIGN MODE!

The story of “Lost Planet” consisted of some douche kid named Wayne whining about his father, shooting people, and doing….some… other stuff. I beat the game, but I found the story mode was pretty lame. I think I may be repressing memories of the games plot. The campaign mode of “Lost Planet 2” has ditched ol’ whats-his-face and put you in the role of your very own customized snow pirate! The main feature I’m stoked for in this game is the ability to play the campaign with up to four- player co-op.  If you snooped around the map in the demo, you could locate a large VS that once held three people, one pilot and two gunners. Footage of little snow dudes rocking expandable shields while their homies fire rockets over their shoulder only hints at the possibilities of teamwork maneuvers this game is bound to offer. Your group could play the game from the perspective of multiple groups of snow pirates. Expect all sorts of epic boss battles that require you to shoot all sorts of glowing things that explode with puss.

THE STORY!

For those of you that endured Lost Planet’s story mode to the end may recall that, in the end, Mr. Good Guy and his band of do-gooders succeeded in warming up the world with their climate altering devices, thus making the world a better place, right? Well, LP 2 takes place ten years after all that madness. The military group NEVEC stills fiends for thermal energy and will do anything to get it, not unlike a crackhead with knife. The safety-orange, glowing beasts of E.D.N. II, the Akrid, are as bountiful as ever. With the climate altered, LP2 offers a variety of jungle and desert locations to battle Akrid and rival snow pirates alike!

ONLINE VERSUS ACTION!

The 16 player online action of “Lost Planet” was what kept me from turning it long ago. The thrill of engaging in a VS dual, grappling out of an explosion in the nick of time, or sticking somebody with my favorite weapon, the disc grenade, were pieces of action that kept me coming back for more. LP2 is said to have the game modes from “Lost Planet: Colonies Edition” and “Lost Planet: Extreme Condition”, plus a variety of new weapons and vehicles. The online multiplayer is also said to have an experience point system that allows you to unlock pieces to customize your online snow pirate with. You don’t want to be that snow pirate known for having the lamest gear, do you? Those of you that have played “Lost Planet” online versus know how it goes down. This game gets real wild online, with all the crazy robots flying around, explosions at every turn, and little dudes grappling from the ceiling and shooting at you. Oh, and you could taunt people by killing them and slapping your ass in their face. Classy, right?

CHANGES IN THE GAMEPLAY!

Seeing  how the weather is a little more tolerable in this sequel, your thermal energy is not constantly depleted. T-eng is now only depleted when using a Vital Suit or a weapon that requires it. Co-op Vital Suits! Who doesn’t love the idea of showing up to the gun fight with their posse all ganged up in a walking harbinger of fire and pain? Another pleasant change is the removal of the previous main character. Seriously though, that guy was pretty wack. Being able to customize your character is not unheard of, but it’s pretty cool just the same I suppose.

Seeing that this game is bound to have some amazing fights, I’ll be sure to scoop it up right away. Did you play the demo yet? That Akrid thing was beast, and I loved how you could get inside of him and fire on his guts, only to get shit out his rear in a stream of orange fluid. I can’t wait to get my hands on this game in April. As I love co-op game play, it is safe to assume that I will be coercing some of my friends into purchasing this one as well. They had damn well better prepare an awesome game after that dramatic announcement video on Xbox Live posted February 24th, 2009. You remember that one? The video with Jun Takeuchi stripping off his RPD jacket and dropping the bombshell was a little over the top, right? Just a couple more months, and we can all go on robot adventures in the jungle together!
