Sometime this Memorial weekend the boys over in the Montreal branch of Bioware let the cat out of the bag with a job listing over at linkedin. The listing was looking for a multiplayer programmer to work on an engine that works reliably in a multiplayer environment. Obviously the listing has come down since it posting but the interwebz has crafty people and crafty people are well crafty and the guys and gals over at Cinema Blend were kind enough to grab us a screen shot of this listing, which is attached below.
But this brings us to an impasse of sorts. So far the Mass Effect series has been revolutionary to the RPG genre. The elements in the game have been nothing but top notch from the story to the now streamlined combat and ability use. And for a game that has created such an intense connection between player and protagonist and the resounding effects of each decision on the world, how do they expect to translate that to a multiplayer world? Are we looking at a potentially new standalone Mass Effect game made for the masses? Will we lose key elements that have made the game what it is in order to make it multiplayer friendly? Is Bioware even going to follow through with this idea or was it just some mistypes or fodder for the rumor mill to get the franchise a bit more buzz? So many questions and I intend to try and get some answers but feel free to leave us some of your speculations on the matter.
