Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds!!!

All the jerks I refer to as “friends” are well aware that I am a big fan of fast-paced fighting games, one of my personal favorites being the lighting-quick cross-over fighter, Marvel Vs Capcom 2. With this in mind, it should be no surprise that when I turned the page in that mediocre magazine known as GameInformer and saw the tantalizing, brightly-colored pages that heralded the coming of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 that a tightening of jeans occurred. Now this game won’t be around until next year but that can’t stop me from fantasizing about the ass-whoopings that I will be honor-bound to administer. As stoked as the thought of this game makes me, I cannot help but be leery after actually reading the article about the game. Let’s take a look at what sounds sexy in this game and what seems likely to piss me off!

The first thing I noticed was the new look of the game and the characters. The game’s combatants now look more like vividly colored 3-D comic book characters that have been brought to life and thrown into unlikely fights. I loved the visual appeal of the previous installment, but I’m not averse to something new. Oh and the ever-impressive MT Framework 2.0 physics engine will be implemented in this game.

Yeah, I’m sure that many avid MvC2 fans can probably deduce which fighters will be making a return, but there are a few new additions to the game that just might shock you!

Dante – This white-haired half-demon goon was the dual-wielding, sword swinging hero of the Devil May Cry franchise.  We can only assume that his fighting style will incorporate good ol’ Ebony and Ivory( his faithful pistolas) as well as his swift sword strokes and quickly alternating between the two! Considering the franchises level of comfort with aerial fighting, this guy should feel right at home.

DeadPool – You remember this guy, right? He was the merc with the mouth in Marvel Ultimate Alliance. No? Well how about that crazy teleporting guy that Ryan Reynolds portrayed in that X-men: Origins movie? I’m curious to see how his teleportation jutsu transfers over to a fighter like this. One thing is certain; this asshole will irritate me just as much as he did in Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Chris Redfield – The handsome hero from Resident Evil 5 will also attempt to keep up with the fighter veterans using heavy artillery and classic American moxie. Dudes breaks out a shotgun, pistol, SMG, a revolver, a satellite laser, and…wait…a satellite laser? Wow…oh and a grenade launcher that is capable firing multi-element rounds. Right now I’m also looking at a picture of him whacking The Hulk with an electric baton. I’m not impressed.

I’m sure as the games release creeps closer more fighters will be revealed! Who would you like to see in the game? What combatants would you like to see make a return? As long as Ken, Ryu, and Akuma are in the game I’ll maintain beast-mode!

So I’m reading the article and I spot some things that make me leery of this game. There is talk of “streamlining” the controls so “casual” gamers can play as well. We veterans revel in the fast-paced complexity of pulling off combos, hyper-combos, cancels, aerials, and everything in between. “Streamlining” means simplifying the game so slower-witted dullards can drop the money for the game, not pronounce it “gay”, and recommend it to equally slow-witted dullards, thus snatching their money as well. What’s this shit about making a universal launch button for all characters? Learning a character was part of the fun!

So we shall know as the next year unfolds whether or not this game will be a worthy addition to the franchise or the final proverbial straw that finally breaks and sends me into a homicidal frenzy. The new characters and the implementation of the MT Framework 2.0 engine are both alluring aspects. I can’t help but wonder what other characters they will pull out of left field. Right now only 30 characters are confirmed but I’m sure that number is bound to increase over the year. If this game is a hit then I’ll be sure to scoop it up and beat up on you and your friends!
