Two years ago horror fans found themselves a new instant classic title to immerse themselves into. As Isaac Clarke you explored the depths of an abandoned ship and fought your way through zombie-esque enemies known as the Necromorph. The gaming community was caught off guard by this new IP from EA, and in 2011 we’ll be able to play the next chapter in Isaac Clarke’s horrific journey in Dead Space 2.
The sequel takes place three years after the events of Dead Space and you’ll be taking on the role once again of Isaac Clarke. Last we saw of Clarke he had set his course away from Aegis VII, and escaped using a shuttle. Right when he thinks he’s safe he is suddenly attacked by a Necromorph resembling his late girlfriend, Nichole. Although what we know now about Dead Space 2 doesn’t really explain what happened to Isaac after he was attacked by the reanimated corpse of his girlfriend; we do know he’s alive. Like any other great survival horror game, and like its predecessor you can be sure to have little to no ammo throughout your adventure for that heightened sense of insecurity and excitement so that once you’re attacked by a large group of angry Necromorph you’ll really have to think hard about how you’ll go about keeping alive.

Space can be your best friend and your worst enemy; you can shatter near by glass that’s separating you from the cold vast darkness of space to take out a whole group of Necromorph that are staggering your way. Once they’re thrown off into space you have to shoot the safety lock as soon as you can to ensure you don’t become another corpse floating in space. In this game you’ll be somewhere known as “The Sprawl”, on one of Saturn’s moons. This sequel also introduces us to a couple new foes including dog-like called Stalkers that skulk in the darkness and leap out right at you when you least expect. The second new foe is known as The Crawler which is basically a Necromorph baby – isn’t that just creepy as hell – these babies are rather short and small so dismemberment would prove to be way more difficult then it should be. Luckily with new enemies comes new weapons to your arsenal that you can use against theses damned reanimated corpses. The first new item is The Detonator; which is basically just a trip mine. You can latch this bad boy into any surface that you can aim at, and it’ll shoot out three lasers; if one of those lasers detects movement it’ll go boom and the baddies go bye bye. Telekinesis is also back once again– very self explanatory weapon– which will be very useful when going against the aforementioned Crawlers. If you’re out of ammo you can take some near by furniture and shoot it off towards you enemy. Your second new weapon is the Javelin Gun which shoots bolts off at enemies and finishes them off with electricity or they’ll end up burning in flames.
Dead Space 2 really looks like another great survival horror title to add to your collection. With the new creepy cast of enemies and the gloomy atmosphere I just can’t wait to see what’s in store for us and Isaac Clarke in Q1 of 2011.
