Activision CEO Archfiend Kotick loses 1 Million Dollars In Legal Battle

Activision CEO and Archfiend of the video-game industry, Bobby Kotick, was recently relieved of over one million dollars at the end of yet another ugly legal dispute. That’s right; Bobby Kotick has entered the legal arena once more, looking for blood. This guy must spend some serious time in court rooms and some serious loot on legal counsel. This time Kotick got a decent chunk of change gouged by one of his, ironically enough, former defense attorneys. We all know that Bobby Kotick has rubbed the gaming community wrong on more than several occasions, so I wonder how many of you will finish reading this piece wearing satisfied grins upon your faces.

Apparently Kotick engaged the services of Patricia Glaser back in 2007 regarding some sexual harassment and wrongful termination suit involving a pilot and a flight attendant. The pilot was reported to have tried to coerce the flight attendant into dining with him, or suffer penalties such as toilet cleaning. Sounds like a lonely soul to me. Well, when this flight attendant finally reported the repeated incidents she was fired shortly after. This led her to initiate the sexual harassment and the wrongful termination suits, which in turn led to Kotick hiring the firm which Glaser represented.

Glaser’s firm billed Kotick for just over one million dollars, but Kotick could only seem to part with $200,000 dollars and cut them a check for that much. Is he really such a greedy fiend or was the service of Glaser’s firm truly inept? One might think such a company as renowned as Activision would try to ensure that they are not known as welchers; one of the lowest classes of man, a person who would try to squirm and flee rather than pay their dues. I’m sure you know the type.

As it turns out, Glaser’s firm put the screws to the guy and got their cut of his fortune. I’m sure it was a bitter defeat for the man, but I’m sure he’s out there right now, deviously machinating some nefarious scheme that will allow him to soak up even more money from the naively trusting video-game community. California Court saw fit to order Kotick to pay the firm $938,458 dollars, as well as $479,898 in additional legal fees. Harsh…

I would say that he needs to learn to settle out of court in these cases, but I would probably fight tooth and nail for my hoard of treasure as well. Hell, I would probably do it in a much more despicable fashion, cutting brake-lines, threatening families, and similar ruthless tactics. If I had the resources available that he did, I would have an army at my disposal. I would probably purchase an orphanage and train these children to be loyal ninjas, deadly assassins that take orders only from me. These assassins would form my personal hit squad and make such problems disappear. Ahem…I mean…if I had the resources…pure idle fancy, I assure you.

The only thing I can hope for Mr. Kotick is that he leaves each of these legal battles a little wiser. He managed to get booty-jacked by Glaser’s firm after he attempted to dodge their bill and ended up paying more in the long run. Oh, in case you were still wondering about that flight attendant’s sexual harassment issue; Kotick settled out of court with the flight attendant for $200,000 dollars. This man seems to be bleeding hundreds of thousands of dollars in an attempt to hang onto his money. I’m sure I’ll be writing about another legal debacle featuring Activision with Archfiend Kotick leading the battle charge before too long. It’s beginning to seem inevitable.
