Guess who’s back and ready for a new review? As one of the opening titles for the infamous Xbox360 and famous PS3, it left us with an idea that a game can provide an experience that leaves such an impression that we crave a sequel. After nearly 3 years of waiting, we finally have it! Guesses anyone? We present to you a review for Assassin’s Creed 2; no rhyme intended. Unlike its predecessor, AC2 offers you a fighting chance to survive in the Renaissance Era of Italy. A buffet of purchasable armor and weapons, medicine and poison, along with unlockables as you progress through the game make AC2 unlike your usual fight in the old country.
This story starts where the first ended, under the confines of Abstergo and Animus. You (Desmond) and Lucy fight your way out only to be dumped in the back of her trunk as you escape to the Assassins’ hide-out. Upon arrival, you meet two other Assassins with the same intent, to stick you right back into their version of the Animus, dubbed “Animus 2.0.” The tech advisor, Rebecca, runs the Animus 2.0. Her ambiguously homosexual assistant, Shaun, provides you with a real time history lesson on important locations and targets throughout the game. Enough of the background, let’s get to the good stuff.
If you’re an achievement junkie, you’re in for a real treat. Not only is the game excellent in nearly every way, the achievements are surprisingly very easy to get. The only achievement that has give me a problem is the “In Memory of Petruccio” achievement. It requires you to find all of the 100 eagle feathers scattered through the maps of the game. If it wasn’t for the sheer monstrous size of your playing field and the fact that it doesn’t give you a meter for how many feathers you’ve found, this achievement would be a walk in the park. I highly suggest to you pass that one up and don’t even worry about it. Besides that one minor point, the game is perfect. You have a solid story everyone can relate to, details on the spot, combos that are easy to perform and if done correctl, Ezio Auditore(Our assassin) will pull off some pretty spectacular finishing moves. I would love to tell you more, but I just can’t see myself ruining it for you.
On a final note, you will come across glyphs through the game on certain buildings that require you to solve a puzzle to open a video file left by Subject 16. When completed, the puzzle will show you the truth to our existence on this planet. I urge you; in respect of the story line, do not watch this video online. (No matter how many time it is plastered on every video website on the internet.) It will ruin the game for you.
