Aliens Vs Predator Demo: First Taste

I cannot recall any time previous that I have stayed up late in order to download a game demo off of Xbox Live Dashboard. On Feb 4th, 2010 I did just that. The new multi-player demo for Rebellions new FPS “Aliens Vs Predator” was released on PSN, XBL and Steam for free download. Now some of you may recall the original AVP on the PC and would not be surprised to know that people still play it. The demo included one map and one game-mode, allowing up to 8 players to participate in a classic free-for-all death match. Now what separates this game from others is the fact that you can play as three different types of characters!

First of all, each death match consists of Predator, Xenomorphs, and the Colonial Marines. The game play varies greatly from class to class. As a Predator, you can leap from afar unto higher perches, utilize various advanced weaponry, and go stealth with your invisibility cloak! Starting with just claws, the Predator is forced to rely on stealth attacks from behind, and ambushes. Though invisible to humans, the Predator can always be seen by the Xenomorphs.  The colonial humans run about with the flimsiest little flashlights I have ever seen.

Late Night Mass Effect 2 Rendezvous!!!!

I froze my ass off waiting in line so that I could scoop up my copy of Bioware’s latest masterpiece, “Mass Effect 2”. This hot new action/ RPG was released on January, 26th 2010, and graced both PC gamers and Xbox 360 fans alike. After this late night acquisition had been made, I eagerly drove home and immediately opened the game and put it into my expectant console. For six hours I ceased to be Joe Bryant. I was Commander Shephard, and I was engaged in an epic battle against an alien race known as “the Collectors”. Now there were a surprising amount of changes and additions to the game, as opposed to its predecessor. This game has held true to my expectations, providing a wide variety of moments in game-play including epic gun fights, crisp CG cut scenes, and even the fun little hacking mini-games! There are some familiar faces in this game, though your team consists primarily of some fresh alien faces this time around. Those have you that have read a previous article I did regarding Mass Effect may recall the instance I described where I encountered a lippy female news reported and ended up laying her out, right? Well hours into the game, who do I encounter? Yup. That mouthy trick of a reporter has spotted me and requests another interiview. I graciously oblige. She starts bringing up some old news from the previous game “ Blah blah blah you let the council die so humans could gain power over other races blah blah blah”. I was not shocked at all when the option to punch the reporter in the face appeared. That’s how I roll. Aside from punching women in the face, there are other reasons to play this game, so let’s get into those as well!

THE VISUALS!

The game looks amazing in all aspects. The CG cut scenes

Heavy Rain is an evolving thriller in which you shape the story. The game is being directed by Quantic Dream’s founder and CEO David Cage, who also wrote and directed the studio’s two previous games, Omikron: The Nomad Soul andFahrenheit.  A playable demo has been confirmed and is set for release on February 11, 2010.

The Demo is not supposed to be here until February 11, but if you play the online spin-off game  at Precinct 52 you can download the Heavy Rain demo, TODAY.

For those who want to play the ARG at Precinct 52, stop now.

Spoilers Below

For those who do not want to play the ARG and would like to submit the correct evidence (at least, correct at time of publishing) and get the demo right now, continue.

The four pieces of evidence are:

• Short cigarette (117b)
• Origami bird
• Coffee shop C (it says “diner”)
• 117h (tyre tracks).

Becareful about which coffee shop you pick as there are several, and you must submit the correct one to get the code. Likewise, the writing on the “tyre tracks” is difficult to read.
